Somatostatin Receptor
Somatostatin (GHIH) is a peptide hormone that regulates the endocrine system and affects neurotransmission and cell proliferation via interaction with G protein-coupled somatostatin receptors and inhibition of the release of numerous secondary hormones. Somatostatin inhibits insulin and glucagon secretion. There are five known somatostatin receptors: SST1(SSTR1),SST2 (SSTR2),SST3 (SSTR3),SST4 (SSTR4) and SST5 (SSTR5). All are G protein-coupled seven transmembrane receptors.
